Bosnia
In October Bart was able to travel to Bosnia, in order to train there new 4 country national force befor heading to Iraq. This was an eye opening event because we had people in the class who were fighting each other 10 years earlier. The post was outside of Sarajevo, but because we were guest of the U.S. Embasy we stayed at the newly built Holiday Inn in Sarajevo. The old Holiday inn (built for the 1984 olympics) had been destroyed durning the war (early 1990's). They are now rebuilding but there are bombed out buildings everywhere still. We did get time to go see the downtown areas filled with mosques and churches, and also got to see where the assanation of the duke to set off the first world war took place. We also went up on the mountains where the snipers were in the Bosnia war. Went to all the old museumes and memorials, many of which still have not been restored. We also got to go through part of the man made, hand shoveled tunnel that went under the U.N. airport durning the war from free Bosnia to under seige Sarajevo, as a supply line durning the war.
